Gilliam Sunflower Ride

21 June 2014
Sunny and 92 degrees
30 miles

Today Jerry and I went to the "Gilliam Sunflower Festival." I read about this a while back and decided to create a bike ride to go along with the Festival. I contacted a friend, Blair Buckley, from Shreveport to get a little more info and invite him to join us.
Blair was a hugh help, got us a route that couldn't be beat.
We met up at 8am in downtown Gilliam and were on the road shortly thereafter.

I was really impressed with the small towns and how clean and orderly they were and also all the old Plantation style homes with lots of hugh old beautiful Pecan trees.

We saw a lot of Sunflowers and they really added to the ride and at one spot near the Red River Levy they had a hugh field of Sunflowers, you could even pick you some if you liked.

After the ride we checked out the festival, a little bit of everything and a lot of people, saw several friends.

I feel sure that Jerry and I will do this ride next year, if the Lords Willing and the Creek don't rise.

Below are my pics of the ride, be sure and click for the larger image, much better.

Photos from Jerry, thanks.
