Got in my last day of the month ride, a twenty four miler to Union Mtn and over it, gravel and all.
It is a favorite of mine, no traffic at all, and no dogs, why do I like this ride?

Got me in a ride today even tho I've still got the "Blahs".
No "Grannies Tonic" last night so that's not the problem, probably just life.
My conditioning felt good, just had blahs, ready for Blahs to be over so I can be my happy, dancing, obnoxious self.

MY ride today

I woke this morning once again to the "Blahs." I'm wondering if I lost count of my tonics last night, surely not.
As I drug about this morning, I decided I was going to quit riding, just lay around, then Teresa told me to get my ass out there on that bike, so I did.
I enjoyed my ride and am going to try to keep getting in some miles before my trip to Costa Rica on Sep 7th.
I may get in more hiking on my trip than cycling, but it'll be good to get out of the rut, out of my comfort zone.

An employment test question:

You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

2. An old friend who once saved your life.

3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing that there could only be one passenger in your car? Think before you continue reading.

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application. You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first. Or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back. However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS....................

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer.
He simply answered: 'I would give the car keys to my old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital.
I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams.'

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations.

Never forget to 'Think Outside of the Box.'

HOWEVER...., The correct answer is to run the old lady over and put her out of her misery,
have sex with the perfect partner on the hood of the car,
then drive off with the old friend for a few beers.

God, I just love happy endings!

It was time for a recovery day, a day off the bike, and it was also time to mow, seems like it's always time to mow.
Like riding, getting started is the hardest part, first thing, had to change the blades.

I really hate changing the blades, if you know of a better way, don't tell me, ignorance is bliss.
Got the mowing done and even weedeated, of course I had to make a trip to town for gas and oil for weedeater, you know, it's never simple and one thing leads to another.
Now I can ride tomorrow and not feel guilty about the grass, and Mommas happy, "If Momma ain't happy, ain't nobody happy."

The weather today is the best it's been in a few weeks, little cool front came thru, 62 deg this morning, perfect for riding, I was mowing.

Ran across this old favorite, a bike for every occasion, or a bike for every day of the year or?

Really nice ride this morning, had clouds for about half the ride and finished up with the wind at my back, that's the way we like it, we like it.
It's good when you feel good and I've been feeling great on the bike lately, I've learn't to enjoy it while it lasts.
I started at 7:30 and finished up at 10:15, break in Marietta and short stop in Douglasville for ice.

Leaving out at 7:30 am, there's a Doe in the pic
at the left by the tree, it's baby was on
the other side of the road.

Break in Marietta, nice little town and
situated just right for break after riding
the Marietta rollercoaster

It's kind of scary, I've felt great for the last 2 days, have got in some fun miles.
Today I did an eighteen mile ride on the backroads near my casa.
I had some fun moto-pacing a truck with a trailor, but it wasn't much fun moto-pacing that carbage truck, I kinda backed off of that one.
All the dogs were happy to see me, I'm the highlight of their day.

Saturday 8/22/09, 40 miles, start time, 7:30am, call 903-756-3541
if you'd like to make this ride.

It's always fun on the bike, but when your having one of those days when your feeling really good, it's nice, yesterday I was at the top of lifes rollercoaster with my hands in the air, even added a few miles to my original route.

I left the house at 7:30am and headed to Red Hill on Hwy 8, then to Douglasville

see that Log Truck, I'm headed the same
way, glad he got there first,
don't like being passed by log trucks
with the tail of the logs flapping about, one
of those up side your head could be painful.

I left Douglasville on Hwy 77 headed east to Midway, a small community

I then took this backroad shortcut, half bumpy black top and half gravel

to County Rd 995 and then turned left toward Atlanta, orginally I had planned to go right to Red Hill

I rode about 3 miles on 995 and then turned on a backroad to a friends house where I refilled my waterbottle with Ice, thanks Phyliss, then on to the casa via the backroads

a good thirty one mile ride, a good start to the day.

I didn't ride today, it rained yesterday and today was just to oppressive, I couldn't face it, I did ride down our County Rd to give a couple of pears to Romeo, our neighborhood Burro, and that three miles was all I wanted.
So I spent most of the day reading, I'm on book number ninetine in the "Wagons West" series by Dana Fuller Ross.
I was raised in Fort Worth, Tx and when I was young I remember the dust storms that would turn the sky rusty from the Dust Storms in West Texas.
We had relatives in West Texas and I always remember how the dust would collect in the house even tho it was shut up tight.
Well in my reading today I ran across what I thought was a pretty good description of the "Dust Storms".

From: "Illinois" by Dana Fuller Ross

"No, I ain't going to tear one of your kites, Timmy," Joshua said chuckling. "But that kite looks too big and heavy to fly. Maybe you could fly it in a Texas dust storm wind, though."

"What kind of wind is that?" Timmy asked, relieved by the change in subject and anticipating one of the old man's tall tales.

"Well, it's so strong and blows the dust so hard that it gets into everything," Joshua replied. "You can't eat eggs that chickens lay during one of those Dust Storms, because the wind blows the dust thru the shell.
People call them Dust Storm Eggs and just throw them away. You can hatch them, if you want to, but the chicken will be full of dust."

I had a good ride this morning, a sixteen miler, wasn't real bad out, but was humid.
It's like Lance said when he got off the plane in Austin, "Damn, it's hot", then he boarded a plane for Ireland, another good thing about being a pro cyclist, leave Texas in the summer.

On my rides lately I've been bothered by "Horseflies", I wonder if anyone else has this problem, and it always happens when I'm climbing, right between my shoulder blades, hard to swat and then one gets in my helmet, then I'm really pee'd.
Have you ever looked at one up close, there pretty scary looking and it's easy to see how they got their name.
Check out this pic

Had a good ride this morning, short and sweet.
It was a bit cool when I got on the road at 7:15am but it didn't last long, about as long as the first hill, then the water begin to flow.
Yep it's going to be another hot one, but at least we're on the downhill side of this heat, that's what you have to keep telling yourself.
Had to stop for a nature break on my ride this morning, made me think, those pros stop and take a nature break and then ride like crazy to get back to the peloton, I'm thinking I'd just have to pee in my pants or my race would be over.

We have a trail around our property that we walk twice a day with the dogs, yesterdays walk had a little excitement.
Not long into the walk, Teresa started dancing and then hollerered "Snake", I was right behind her, looking frantically for the snake.
Teresa dances forward and I dance back, she points and I finally see it, a green garden snake about 2 feet long.
No need to kill it, I gently nudge it with my walking stick and it runs off.
This isn't the first time Teresa has stepped over a snake, the last time it was a copperhead, I've tried to tell her not to step over them, but to stop and survey the situation, oh well.

Lance takes Leadville 100 and sets a new course record, you da man.

Got in my 40 miler today and it went fine, could have been better with less heat and humidity, but that's life.

Hope the guys have a blast in Leadville today, wish I was there.

Todays ride, 40 miles

Taken this afternoon at Casa

We've got a lot of Red Headed Woodpeckers in
this area, I'm a little concerned about this one.

Stepped out back this afternoon and found this
little succer rooting around, it's like a Zoo
around here!

Really enjoyed my ride this morning, the conditions were pretty nice for this time of the year, almost cool at the start and only a mild sweat.
I rode the Club Lake Mtns, Tobacco Road and then finished up with Pate hill, a good workout.
Image below is the route I took today.
Now I've got to play computer man and run an ethernet cable from our new Wireless router upstairs to Teresa's computer downstairs, shouldn't be to difficult, especially since I'm doing it for myself.

It was nice out there today

I took a fourteen mile ride this morning and it was relatively nice, cooler than the last couple of weeks, 69 deg at start.
I mainly rode the hwy but did catch a couple of backroads, below is a pic of my road up "Red Hill", shady at the bottom, and busting out into the sun about half way up.
Oh, and today I had a first, out of all the rides I've done I believe today was the first time I saw a rat cross the road, he didn't stop for a photo.

Climbing to the sun

I had a good ride yesterday, the conditions were tolerable, I managed to ride my first 11 miles on the Hwy and then as the sun climbed in the sky, I returned to the casa by way of the backroads, where there is considerably more shade.
Today I woke to rain, which at this time of the year makes it pretty nasty outdoors so I opted to ride my trainer, got in 10 miles, that's about all I can handle at one time.
I'm really curious as to how Leadville will play out this weekend, will Lance take the win, I think it would be a real treat if "Pistillero" showed up, hell I'd have to go for that.
Oh Colorado, the place to be this time of the year, and I didn't get one damn number on my two Lottery tickets this week, looks like I'm stuck in Texas, I guess it could be worse.

Got in a good ride this morning, plenty of good hills and lots of Humidity and Heat.
MY ride started off real well when I ran upon my neighbor and he was heading out with a trailor full of watermelons.
I flagged him down and asked how much he wanted for his melons, he told me just to get one, right in my price range so I grabbed one, 37lb Red Meat Jubilee, sweet.
George has also taken a couple of loads to the local Nursing homes, he said, "Got to take care of the old people, want be long and I'll be one", I know the feeling, I hope he gets the Karma that's due him.

Check out this pic of my ride a couple of days ago when the Humidity was at it's worst, pic actually looks kind of pleasant, but NO NO, really nasty, that's humidity you see in the air.

This next pic was taken this morning about 7:30am, I left the house at 7:15 and was already half wet by the time this pic was taken, I thought the moon looked really cool, when I looked the other way I saw the sun and it didn't look Cool at all.

While on my ride I stopped in Linden and got a couple of Lottery Tickets, if we win I'll be updating my blog from Colorado next week, but don't hold your breath, we usually get about one number out of 5, the story of my life.

Went for a ride this morning and I really believe that the conditions were as bad as I've ever ridden in, Hot, Humid, boiling, give us a break.

It was a "Boilathon" out there today, I felt like a steamed tomatoe when I got home, but it was a good ride, there all good, some are just better than others.

I realize my post was a little short yesterday, it's the Roller Coaster called Life, sometimes your on top with your hands in the air and hollering for all you've got, and then sometimes you find yourself in that valley, yesterday I didn't have my hands in the air.

I rode today with a mission, take the highway to town and back and look for the Hubcap Teresa lost on her Toyota, as I suspected, mission unaccomplished.
I did however get a crick in my neck from looking to the right as I searched the ditches for the hubcap.
I arrived back home and gave Teresa the bad news, no hubcap. I start thinking that maybe someone ripped off the hubcap while Teresa was at the Dollar store, I asked her if she parked near anyone, she said that there was a guy in the car next to her when she went into the store.
After I found out where she parked I really started to think we had been ripped off because the hub that was gone was on the side of the car that would have been hard to see.
I think maybe the same guy that ripped off Nicks sprinkler probably stole my hubcap, if I find the SOB I'm going to turn him over to Nick, I think he would be better at torturing the guy than I would, he was really pissed about that sprinkler.
After Teresa called the Toyota dealer and found out that a new hubcap would be about 80 dollars, I told Teresa that I thought the car would look good w/o any hubcaps, problem solved, saved 80 bucks, She didn't buy it, damn.
If you happen to have an old Toyota hubcap laying around, send it to me COD, thanks.
