December 11

Happy New Year, may all your resolutions be fulfilled, I truly do hope everyone has a great New Year, thanks a lot for stopping by, I truly enjoy my Online friends.

Today I went to the "Black Eyed Pea Ride" in Texarkana.
This was a year end get together for the Texarkana club folks, I really enjoyed the ride and the after ride fellowship.
I'm certain everyone had a good time, I know I did.
I would like to thank everyone for making this a good event.
Thanks Chris for the photography work and Scott for the Black eyed peas and I must thank Don for his famous Green Egg Pork, was Delicious, the quote of the day was, "you can't beat Dons meat."
God willin and the creek don't rise, I'll make this ride next year.

Click thumbnail for more pics of the ride.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
Full Sun today with a light wind and fifty nine deg F, a really nice day, and we're supposed to have a few more, bring em on.

I took a ride thru the "Frasier Creek Bottom" today and was happy to see some aqua flowing south, it got dry this summer for the first time in a while.
I really do love cuisin the backroads, decent blacktop and no traffic, just an occasional suicidal squirrel or port lost turtle.

This is the "Four Way" in the bottoms,
as your looking, straight ahead is Linden,
right, takes you up Pate Mtn and the left takes you to "Van the Goat Man."

The Suns out and I'm going for a ride!!

P.M.

Sun, Glorious Sun, it came out today and so did mrbill.
I did my lottery loop, the temp was about 55 deg F, breezy with full Sun, nice.
I felt strong, I looked good, when I had a good movement this morning, I knew it was going to be a good day.

After leaving Linden on Tabacco Rd, about five miles from town I pass by this House

"Van the Goat Mans" new home

I built these homes for about six years in NE Tx and Arkansas.

It's funny but I was looking at this picture I noticed the gable end is set out with the porch beam instead of going straight up with the logs on the end of the house, very interesting and a lot easier, wish I had learned that trick sooner, and I thought I knew all the tricks, just goes to show.

********************

On my ride today as I passed "DeLoach's Pond" I thought about this song and I cracked up, I always do

I don't mean to be a scrooge but I sure am glad Christmas is over, it was fun and it is done.
Now New Years and then we can get back to living and breaking our New Year Resolutions.

It's beginning to get downright depressing, cloudy all the time, can barely remember what the Sun feels like and only a couple of months ago I didn't think I'd ever see a cloud again, the grass is always greener.

I finished planting my trees Saturday morning and about thirty minutes later it started raining and hasn't quit yet, that's good for trees but not for riding.

Looks like a good day for reading, don't think I'll do the "Mega Monday" deal, I'm about Holiday bought out.

I make this promise to myself, when the sun returns I'll take a ride, there, now I've got to do it, heck, I want too, badly.

Everyone have a good day, hope you have sun, if so, send me some.

Maybe I'll take a ride indoors, ugh.

From:MrDaveyGieYeap, I gotta admitt, me too, glad it's over. Things can settle back down and less traffic also, makes for a better bike ride. :-)

A very Merry Christmas to everyone, I hope you have a great one, me and the dogs are looking forward to it, the dogs get a chicken on Christmas, cooked just the way they like it, which is anyway.

I haven't ridden my bike in a couple of days, I've been doing some cross training, planting Pine Trees.
The first three hundred wasn't to bad, by the second planting of two hundred that fun Jonnyappleseed feeling was gone and now I'm trying to talk myself into going out and planting the last one hundred and twenty five.

The weather continues to be cloudy and depressing, clouds with rain is great, clouds w/o rain is depressing.

Doesn't look good for a ride today, by the time I finish planting trees it may be raining, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

********

In the reading department I finished "Domain" by James Herbert, all I can say is, don't buy this book unless you love large Black mutant Rats that love to eat Humans, I got lost in the details of the disaster and the constant pursuing Rats.
I can read almost anything and this is the first book in a while I had to work to finish, not one I'd reccomend.

I'm currently reading "Swimming to Catalina" by Stuart Woods, no problems here, this is one in the Stone Barrington series and there always entertaining, it won't last long.

From:MrDaveyGieMerry Christmas to you too, Sir Bill of Texas. Oh and that is a lot of trees.

mrbill:

And a Great New Year to yall

From:TomMerry Christmas to you and the dogs.

mrbill:

Darn Dogs, I didn't get any presents, I look outside on Christmas morning and the Dogs are chewing on what looks like "reindeer legs," this ain't good.
Have a Great New Year

I was lazy this morning, LAZY, but I saw the video that I posted and shortly thereafter I was headed out on my bike, sometimes you need inspiration, or it helps.

I took my Mtnbike out on the backroads which are in good shape now since we've had a few rains which have firmed them up, Bueno.

Just me and the Backroads

and a few deer.

The weather was nice, 60 deg and breezy, partly cloudy, Sun the last quarter mile.

As I walked out the door, ready to ride, I noticed the clouds moving in, well, at least I had one day of Sun.
Even tho the clouds rolled in I had a fun day on the bike, while passing thru Linden I ran into Jerry Harp, his daughter Teresa and nephew Andrew, and rode about 10 miles with them.
Jerry's a tourer and his daughter isn't a regular rider but she did real well on the High School Mtns.

Blue sky in the distance, clouds rolling in

My view of the Sun today.

The Sun finally came out and so did mrbill.
The weather was just about perfect, I took the backroads to Linden and back on the Mtn bike, great ride.

Cass County Court House, Linden, TX
under restoration

Came upon this four way in the bottoms, first time to see the new culverts and headwalls, alright, sprucin up the backwoods.

Mtnbike today, think I'll take Blueboy tomorrow, so he can stretch his forks.

Hope your having a good weekend on the bike, I'm praying you have Sunshine, love it.

What a beautiful morning, cold, wet, windy and cloudy, looks like a reading day unless we have some dramatic improvements.

I've mentioned before how us Texans love the sun, even when it's one hundred and fifteen we're still partial to the Sun, it unlocks the feel goodies.
Maybe I need to take a flight, at times like these I remember one time when I was living in Denton and decided to take a trip to Mexico.
It had been raining for days and days, I get on the plane and we take off, as we reach about 10,000 ft all of a sudden it's bright sunlight and below it looks like snow reaching out forever, I felt better immediately.
We are supposed to have some sun tomorrow or the next day, so I won't book my flight just yet, but the thought remains.

Slap Me Silly and call me Willy, I haven't been on my bike in three days, I hope the old sayin is true, "It's like ridin a bicycle, you never forget," surly I'll remember how.
We're in desperate need of Sunshine, seems like it's been four or five days.

Went to see my Therapist at the VA today, I think he felt better after I left.

In the reading department I'm currently reading, "Domain" by James Herbert.
Atomic bombs fall on London, people head underground, Mutant Black Rats are also underground, you get the picture.

A grey cloudy dreary day with a spot of sun late in the day.
I didn't ride today just couldn't get it together.
I will ride tomorrow.

In the reading department I finished "Hong Kong" by Stephen Coonts, good beginning and middle but wasn't to thrilled with the ending.

My next book is "Domain" by James Herbert.

Took the Mountain bike today and did the "Bottoms Loop." It was a nice cool 52 deg, Sunny and an all around nice day.
No unusual sighting today, one suicide squirrell, about a 3 foot miss.
I ran over a Rabbitt before, gets pretty squirrelly pretty quick or is that Rabbitty, oh well.

From:MrDaveyGieI ran over a ground hoggitty once on my skinnie tire road bike. I really really did. Killed em too.

mrbill:
I didn't kill the rabbit I ran over, I probably wasn't heavy enough

A.M.,

I'm going to ride today and I'm going to ride toward Linden on Blueboy, there, I've done it, I put it down for the millions to see, that should inspire me to do it.

P.M.:

I did my lottery loop today, plus the High School loop for a total of 24 miles.

The weather was nice, 50 deg, Sun, a bit cool but just right as long as your moving.

Is it just me or do you also think "the further I am from the camera, the better I look."

Hope you had a nice ride today, wish you could have had my weather.

********

I'm posting this photo again, because I can, plus, I really like it.
Passing over a real rough section on the backroads I stopped and set my camera on the ground, looks a bit like a Mountain in the outback of Australia.

I call it, "East Texas Cobble."

Be sure and click for the large photo.

Cool and cloudy this morning, really hoping the Sun comes out today, I'm pretty well over my cold and am ready to ride, hopefully later today.

Spending the morning wrapping Christmas presents for for the Grandkids.
While doing some shopping for the Grandkids I was looking for the "Balsa Wood Gliders," they were big when I was a kid and I really liked them.
Couldn't find them at Wally World so did a little searching online

I found this one

Available here
"Hobby Place"

I ordered ten of them, one for each of the Grandkids and two for me, Ok, so it's not fair, I get two and they only get one, don't say anything.

I just remembered, when I was a kid my Grandparents took me and my sister to "Will Rogers Coliseum" in Fort Worth, TX, for a Glider Expo, was really neat, all sizes and some of them stayed in flight for quite a time, was a fun trip.

TomLove the gliders too. Pretty damn simple, but a blast. They break up pretty fast...kind of flimsey.

Unfortunately my self-diagnosis of a cold was correct and the last couple of days it has put me on the couch.
I guess like most active folks I really don't like being down but it has been some time since I had a cold and I guess it was time.
I think the worst has passed, today will be the coughing and hacking, getting all junk out of my lungs.
While doing my stretching last night I got winded just doing some squats, my usable lung capacity is greatly diminished.

It should be a beautiful day today, sun and upper 50's, I'm hoping to get in a little ride of some kind, but's that's not a definite.

What a dreary day but I'm not complaining we're in bad need of water.
Once I finally got going this morning I went to Atlanta, had Chinese and then went to Wally World.
I can't hardly believe it but I actually enjoyed shopping for the Grandkids Christmas.
Managed to get a couple of outfits, socks, and underware for five of them, three more to go.

I've still got my chest cold, a self diagnosis, stopped up nose, and mucho muco.
Not sure what the weather holds for tomorrow but I think it may be like today.
Now I don't like to complain, and we really need the rain, and I can live with a Dreary day tomorrow but after that we gonna need some Sunshine, Texans just don't do well w/o Sunshine.

********

In the Reading Department I'm currently reading "Hong Kong," by Stephen Coonts, just getting started but I think I'm going to like it.
I actually spent a week in Hong Kong in 1968, R&R from Viet Nam, how many times have I said, looking back, I wish my eyes had been open, I would have seen more.

Scarriest Plane landing I've ever had, that includes my 497 jumps, and trips to every continent.
It was one bad Thunderstorm, mucho Lightning and as we were coming in to land you could see lightning bolts out the window and the plane was being tossed around and then finally we broke thru the rain and clouds and I thought for a minute we were landing in the water, the runway actually does run out into the Harbor.
I can't remember if I kissed the ground on this one or not, but most likely.
I actually spent most of my time in Kowloon across the Harbor from Hong Kong, pretty much going to musicals, theatre, museums, you know, just the regular stuff a young soldier would want to do on some time off in Hong Kong.
I've still got a suit I had made while in Hong Kong, lots of tailor shops, a major spot to have suits made, inscense, drinks, if you visit enough shops, no telling what you might buy.

Now, back to the States and Linden, TX, if it doesn't rain tomorrow, a bike ride of some kind, if it does rain, I'll just do like the animals, "Yawn, Get up, Stretch, look the rain, walk in a circle and lay back down," Recovery.

What seems like a wasted day.

Once I got going I walked out on the front porch and noticed a box on the porch swing.

I don't when he came but UPS delivered my Tires for my recumbent.

So you know what happens then, what seems like a complete bike makeover.
Before I forget I love those master links in chains, why in the hell don't I have em, I always love getting out the old Chain Tool

I forgot to mention that I started immediately putting the tires on my recumbent, the problem was that these tires are smaller and that looonnng Gage derailleur is almost on the ground, so I have to rob a derailleur off another bike and consequently break chain, I believe that's where I was.

Here's the part I didn't want to tell, I got her all put together, that included a major + seat adjustment, and decided I'd take her for a test ride.

I got all ready, got my pack with some tools in case of adjustments and headed to HWY 8 and maybe to Linden.

As I was riding chain seemed to need a little adjustment so I stopped a couple of times and messed with Barrel Adjuster, couldn't get it to run smoothly.
About this time I'm on 8 and fixing to start up a hill into the wind, I'm tired of the skipping, gotta take a look.

I get down and look real close, "Oh, sssT, I misrouted the chain thru the rear derailleur, and what's worse, it's not the first time I've done it, please don't tell anyone.

I'm really looking forward to trying it again tomorrow, I've fixed the problem and I got to use my trusty Chain tool again, wouldn't won't to get rusty.

In the Reading Department, I just finished reading "Cold Paradise," by Stuart Woods.

There easy, fun and occasionally you can learn something, very entertaining.

While reading this book I got an idea for another one, "Tumult" by Frederick James, starts well and ends well?

I don't think I'd ever like curling up to a good 'Kindle," never say never

Of course one of the problems I have is that when my ride is over my oxygen starved brain can't remember a one of my great thoughts or ideas that I had on the ride.
