I had a nice ride today, 34 miles, it was warm but not that bad as long as I kept moving.
It was nice to get home and get a cool shower.

We had ourselves a rainy ride today.
I rode to Linden and met up with Jerry, Roger and Johnathan at the convenience store. We headed out of town with sprinkles, down the road about 5 miles we had rain, that would set the tone for the day, sprinkles and then rain.
Everyone had a good time and it was warm enough to where the rain actually felt pretty good.

I got out this morning about 7:30am for a Hot and Muggy 25 miler with hills.
The ride was going fine until just before I entered Linden then something happened that I haven't encountered before.
I was riding along and my left foot felt loose in the pedal, I thought it was a problem with either my cleat or my pedal, not so. I unclipped and looked at pedal it seemed fine, clipped back in and it still felt loose, then all of a sudden my left foot is free of the bike with the pedal and crankarm hanging from my foot.
Oh boy, what to do now, couldn't put my foot down, so shook it and it fell off.
Now I'm standing on the side of the road wondering if I'll ever find the screw for the Crankarm. I put the crankarm back on and start pedaling back down the road and luckily I fine the bolt laying in the road about 100 feet back, my lucky day. I get out my Multi-tool and reinstall crankarm and then I'm on my way.
Fortunately the rest of the day was uneventful.

Went to the gym today, then out for Chinese, Wally World and then to the house.
I was ready for a day off mainly due to muggy hot conditions. I'll be out there early in the morning to try and beat some of the heat, mid 90's tomorrow.
Just wanted to let everyone know ahead of time, July 25th is the Naples Watermelon Festival in Naples, Texas, and I'll be doing the same 33 mile route as last year. This was a really good ride and fun event, I highly reccomend it, drop me a line if you want to attend. Free is the word, free ride and free watermelon.
For pics from last years Watermelon ride,

A really nasty day today, hot and muggy.
Regardless of the conditions I wanted to get in a ride this morning, the skies looked threatening but with it being so muggy I knew I'd be wet one way or another so I hopped on the bike. I did my regular 25 mile loop which includes quite a few nice hills and sure enough I did get wet, it sprinkled on me for about half the way, and was muggy all the way. As long as I was riding I was fine but when I stopped I was miserable, so I didn't stop much.
I did stop by Linden and pick up a lottery ticket, if I win I'm going somewhere it isn't so muggy.

Today I headed to Gilliam Louisana for our Sunflower ride, looks like this may be an annual event. This year we had five more riders than last year so we've more than doubled from last year.
This is a ride I made up last year and it's really funny but with little planning it always turns out to be a great time.
Roger joined Jerry and I and we represented the Linden group and Blair got several new riders this year, Gary, Susan, Susan, Frances from Shreveport.
Due to all the rain the sunflowers were not quite as nice as last year but they were fine. We even had a rest stop on the way in provided by Mr. Green. Mr. Green is a WW2 vet and has built a memorial to our wars, really nice, and he was giving away free water and cokes to those who stopped by the Memorial, worked out nicely, thanks much Mr. Green.
When we returned to Gilliam the place was buzzing, lots of folks, all kinds of crafts, entertainment. and some tasty food. I had some tasty Cabbage Jumbalaya and it was really good, I also got a Smoked Chicken Breast wrapped in Bacon and filled with cream cheese and spinach, it weighed about a pound and a half, I brought it home, probably be eating on it for a few days.
Thanks to all for coming out, hope to see all of you next year and be sure to bring a friend.
Sidenote: I'm really jealous of Blair who got a great deal on a Trek 520 touring bike and he's got it looking good.

Got out for a ride this morning, it was hot and humid.
I got in 33 miles on my touring bike and it felt good.
We got our afternoon rain today, we've been getting these for a few days now. Guess we're going to get some more rain with Tropical Storm "Bill" headed to North Texas.
One of my favorite Pro Cyclists, Peter Sagan is second in the Tour of Switzerland, he got second on todays stage.
My watermelons are making but I really doubt they'll do much good thanks to the Deer and Rabbits.

I had a little change of plans which meant I didn't ride today. I got behind on my yardwork and really needed to catch up and since it rains in the afternoon I needed to get mowing done in the morning. I got the mowing done plus some weedeating and sure enough in the afternoon it rained, glad i got the lawn mowed.
My cantelopes and watermelons are having a hard time the deer and rabbits are overtrimming even with Chichi chasing them off occasionally. Yesterday Chichi started barking and I went to see what it was, she was barking at a deer in the yard, it wasn't paying her much attention, I told her to get it, she ran after it but when it raised its head and looked at her she ran back to me. These rabbits and deer are almost tame and I think they really appreciate the fact that I planted something for them to eat.
I got a couple of photos of my Woodpecker today, I wish I had a better camera so I could zoom in and get a really good pic, he's a good looking boy, I like woodpeckers.

First thing this morning I had to give my cantelopes and watermelons a little attention and then it was off to the gym.
Got home from the gym and had a bit of work to do around the house then it was time to lay up under the A/C.
Tomorrow I'll be on the road at 7am trying to beat the heat. I'll be riding 38 miles with a break in Marietta, don't think I'll get the hamburger this time, maybe some fries.

Nice ride to Linden this morning, but it is definitely heating up, mid 90's.

Really enjoyed my ride today.
I was on the bike at 6:55, rode 40 miles and was finished at 10:15, and showered by 10:25.
I got out early to beat the heat and that worked well until the last few miles when it got up to about 90 deg.
I took my light touring bike since it's my most comfortable bike, worked well.
82 deg F,
Tour canceled, life was so much easier when I was young and irresponsible.
