Clear mind and clear body keeps me light on the pedals.
I'm really enjoying the bike these days, had a nice 25 this morning.
After my ride I went to the gym and met up with Roger and Jerry and we decided to ride together tomorrow, 40 for me, 25 for Roger and Jerry, should be fun.

Also while at the gym Marty stopped by and shared some bad news with me, he has a large mass on his brain.
This just about floored me, Marty's a hell of nice guy, why does this have to happen.
Just remember Marty, anything you need, just hollar.

This reminded me that I need to take a trip to Colorado, and soon.

I had a nice weekend of riding. Saturday, Jerry and I had a real nice 47 miles, weather was perfect and it seemed to fly by.
Friday I got my new shoes so I decided to try them out on Sunday. I just rode 25 miles, I thought it might be best to break them in, they felt fine.

I also did a little yard work on Sunday morning, when I get in more miles I fall behind around the casa.

Right now I'm in the best shape I've been in for a while and it sure is fun.

Nice ride to Marietta and back this morning.
I believe this is going to be a favorite thursday ride, you start with hills, end with hills and there are some hills in the middle.

I made a deal with a friend, Roger Warren, to ride this morning.
Jerry and I are trying to get Roger into riding, he has got a new bike and on the ride this morning he did good.

Before our ride we met at Jerry's to meet a gentleman, Mike Scully, who is cycling from San Antonio to New York. We had a nice visit, Mike seemed to really have it together, he had a nice rig, hope he has a good trip.

Jerry and I managed to get in a 25 miler this morning, nice weather considering the time of year.
After our ride Jerry came by the house to show me how to put some songs on my new MP3 player, thanks Jerry.
I'm having a hard time finding someone to ride with so on some of my longer rides I thought it might be nice to have some music, I'll try it out on Thursday on my ride to Marietta and back.
On Saturday I plan on doing a 47 miler and this will also be a good ride for music, not to much traffic.

Got on the road at 7am and it was 74 deg, 86 by the time I got home, Hot and Humid were the words for the day.
When passing thru Linden I stopped at Jerry's to wish him a happy birthday and see his 100 dollar wool shirt.
I left Jerrys to do an 8 mile loop and when I was finishing the loop I came up on Jerry walking, scared the dodo out of him.

I had a fun ride this morning. I was on the road at 6:50am, perfect time as it turns out. It is a rest day so I just did 16 miles to town and back.

A funny thing happened as I was leaving Linden. As I leave town there's these 3 large dogs that hassel me, been hasseling me for a while now. As I'm rolling along I see em up ahead waiting for me, they're ready, I decide to just keep rolling and let em come. As I get to the 3 dogs they split up white one on my right, black on the left and brown in the rear. I keep rolling they start getting closer, the black one on my left is the most agressive so he's the main one I'm watching, come on boy. I finally decide he's about as close as he's going to get so I slow, tap the break, swing left and Bam, put my foot right in his face. He stops immediately and turns to leave and that's when I see the Highway Patrol right behind me, he's been watching the whole thing, made his day.

Why do Rest days always turn out to be Work days, just having fun.

Out early

The Gilliam Sunflower ride is on for this weekend, the 21rst, in Gilliam, LA.
I've got to contact a friend in Shreveport and see if he's coming and if he wants to do the 50mi.
Jerry has decided he wants to do the 33 and start at 9am, so here's the deal, if you want to do the 50 we'll start at 8am and if you want to do the 33 start at 9am, we should end up in Gilliam about the same time.

Here are maps of the route.
50 mile, 1300 ft climb33 mile loop, 773 ft of climb
Please let me know if you'll be coming and if you have any thing to add to this ride let me know, I hope to have a definite post on this ride by Wednesday.

I had so much fun on yesterdays ride I decided to get out and do it again this morning. It was a nice morning for a ride, a bit warm and a medium South wind, but nice for this time of the year.

I really want to thank Jerry and Charmane for riding with me, I know it isn't easy, but it really makes my weekend. Our group has, Beauty, Intellegence and BS, you figure out whos who. I can guarantee you that us three really do love to ride bikes and I think I could ride every Saturday from now on with these folks, Ok, I'll give em one weekend off a month, that's it.

Jerry, Charmane and myself met up in Red Hill this morning for a ride. As usual we had a good time and 40 miles was behind us before we knew it. The weather was perfect for this time of the year, overcast most of the ride with a light wind. We had one stop in Marietta at Mimi's cafe and as you can see in the last photo they really had a neat table, made of pecan and about 12 feet long, impressive.
I think we had enough hills for everyone and we burnt enough calories that we can have anything we want for the rest of the day.

Next weekend we will meet in Gilliam, LA for a 33 mile ride, there's a 50 miler if you like, I'll be posting more on this ride, Jerry and I will be there, maybe Blair from Shreveport and hopefully Charmane.

Quite a few dogs in Carterville, not to agressive tho

Interesting couple of Vehicles in Midway

Mimi's Cafe

ONe really nice table made of Pecan.

I rode to Linden today and went to Jerry's, he wanted to join me for 8 miles. We left his house and as we were riding along I noticed I was behind Jerry and I wasn't waiting. I kept pedaling and Jerry wasn't letting up, what's going on here. Jerry finally tells me that he wants to do the loop as fast as he can to check his average mph. So we do an 8 mile time trial and Jerry was impressive almost had me on the ropes.

After the ride we had coffee and talked chickens with a friend. A good morning.

**************

If your looking for a ride this Saturday come join me and Jerry for a good one, 40 miler, but you can ride what ever distance you like. We'll have a stop at the Cafe in Marietta, my treat.

This ride will start at Red Hill at 8am, if you need a 9am start we may be able to work it out.

Jerry and I had a really nice ride this morning, felt more like April than June. We rode from Linden to Almira to Red Hill then back to Linden, 25 with some hills.

After our ride I took the car to Gilliam, LA to check out my bike route for our June 21rst ride. I thought I had found a nice shortcut, a neat road, on Google Earth but when I checked it out today it turned to gravel so the long route will be 50 miles, then a 33 and then a 25. I was amazed at how nice the roads were, smooth pave, no Texas Chipseal. It'll also be a treat to cross the Red River, pretty nice views from the bridge.

Boy do I feel Stupid
It's not that great after all

I had a good weekend on the bike.

Saturday morning I went for a 33 mile ride and Jerry joined me for about 8 miles, enjoyed the company, Jerry talking about blisters.

On Sunday I rode 40 miles by myself. I was on the bike at 6:53am and was home by 10am, worked out great.
It is heating up in Texas but so far it's not insanely hot and if I get out early it's not so bad.

Lesson for the Day:
Always be "Considerate" of others, even if your a God or Goddess.

An online friend, Tom, posted this online today, kind of goes along with being Considerate, well put.

Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.

The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds.

Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.

The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand.

It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.

Today I took the Mtn Bike for a spin thru the bottoms and up a couple of hills.

The main reason for the mtn bike was to meet up with Jerry and Roger who were on a hike to the State Park from Linden. That's about a 20 mile hike and congratulations to them, they made it.

I had a fun day on the bike today, got in 33 miles.

Todays route was hilly and I was on the road at 7:40am to beat the heat.
Yep it's heating up in East Texas, 90's, can't complain to much it hasn't been 100 yet.
